Urban X Solutions Inc Keeps Connected with NEWT

MIKE NORWICH - Reason for switchingNEWT’s marketing team recently had the opportunity to sit with Urban X Solutions, one of their local business phone system customers. In 2008 Mike Norwich opened Urban X Solutions Inc. becoming the Kitchener-Waterloo region’s authorized Xerox Canada Sales Agency.

His organizations sales philosophies are:

  1. stay connected to the local market
  2. stay connected to the existing customer base
  3. focus on delivering services for SMB Groups

Urban X Solutions were looking to find a Telco solution that was going to help them to achieve those goals as well as reducing costs.  Mike explained that, “. . . at the end of the day . . . we were paying too much money for the service that we were being delivered, and for what we were getting out of it.”

Norwich took a look at the NEWT Business Phone System and realized that, “. . .  the savings were substantial.”

Right out of the gate, Urban X Solutions was able to save 50% on their Telco bills when they switched to NEWT.  “The amazing part.” explained Norwich, “we cut the number in half including the hardware”.  They were able to get all new hardware from NEWT and still save 50% off their telecom costs starting day one.  “It’s actually going to drop down to more like 90% after three years; so talking just a ridiculous amount of money when you start to peel it back by looking at the system.”

Two NEWT business phone system features that Urban X Solutions said they found most useful are:

  1. Voicemail to Email – emails come directly to Urban X employee smartphones so they don’t have to call in to the office to hear messages. This feature helps provide better service to customers as they are always in touch. Also, it’s simple to send or share the message file with another team member, so they can handle the request.
  2. Call Follow Me – no matter where ever an Urban X employee is, they never miss a call.  Calls are directed directly to their mobile device so when they are on the road they can talk to customers anywhere.

When asked about the Installation process for the NEWT business phone system Norwich said, “it was like clockwork . . . the one thing that I did like was the fact that our old system was still operational while the new one was in, until that magical switch happened between the providers . . . the most important thing was that you need to have a phone system.  You can’t afford down time, so we actually didn’t have any down time when it came to the transition.”

One of the hesitations to switch to the NEWT business phone system was because Norwich owned his old system and thought he would simply pay for repairs to maintain it.  After he looked at the NEWT system, he was able to save 50% right away with all new hardware and provide a solution with features he needed to provide an excellent service to his customers, and his sales agency.

Norwich’s bottom line: “Here’s the one thing I’ll say . . . you always have to look at the big picture when you’re changing stuff, and if you want to get to the end result you’re going to have to do it, and you’re going to have to make a call on it.”

“If I look back and I would have done this sooner, the amount of money we would have saved doing this two years ago versus, you know . . . a year ago, that money would’ve been in my pocket versus being with some other provider . . . “.

I’m in! – The Culture Event That Changed Fibernetics

John Stix is the president of Fibernetics, the parent company of NEWT, its business services division. In the summer of 2013 he noticed that his company, though thriving in the Canadian telecom marketplace, was falling short in the cultural end of things.

Something was missing.

Over the next few months he immersed himself in learning about corporate culture and how to not only improve it, but how to be innovative in developing an entire new way about doing business. He took on culture as his primary task because he discovered through his research, good companies have okay culture. Great ones are off the charts.

Working with a select group of fellow culture warriors from different facets of the company like HR, marketing, operations and sales, he put together the “I’m in!” initiative, spelling out for the team his vision of going from good to great.

The video above is his take on the event and the results they have had on his company in just a few months. Improving culture is not a one-day event, it’s an everyday process, but John and his team sure got off to a good start.

NEWT is the Perfect Real Estate Communication Solution

steve stoutt - reason for switchingThe real estate industry has very complex communication requirements & the features of the NEWT PBX makes it the perfect real estate business phone system.

The city of Orillia is located 135 km north of Toronto, and is one of Ontario’s premier cottage and waterfront destinations. The area has a rich history dating back thousands of years ago, where Native North Americans populated the area for trading, fishing and hunting. Nowadays however, Orillia’s population has grown to just over 30,000 and boasts an economy that has consistently grown over recent years.

The Stoutt family, much like the city their agency is currently located in, has a rich history in real estate that dates back to 1952, when Steve and Daniel Stoutt’s grandfather first opened Stoutt Agencies. Now, two generations of realtors later, Steve and Dan, along with their father Don, run their own RE/MAX franchise in Orillia and currently employ approximately 50 agents. We caught up with Steve to talk about the day-today activities that go on in the RE/Max Orillia and how the NEWT Business Phone System plays a role in those activities.

One of the major ways the NEWT system was able to help the RE/MAX Orillia save time and effort involved the ease at which they can now bill their agents for their phone calls. “When we used to receive our phone bills from our previous phone company, it would take the better part of a day or two to sort through our approximately 50 agents” exclaims Steve. With the Call Detailed Records feature from NEWT, the accounting department at RE/MAX Orillia can now see agent-specific call records that give the time, location, and length of each call made. When asked about how long it takes them to bill agents now with the NEWT PBX in place, Steve says “within an hour”.

The Enhanced Call Detailed Records feature from NEWT is designed to save real estate agencies time and effort when trying to allocate costs for multiple agents and the calls they’ve made. If a real estate agent has multiple people that work for him/her, the NEWT Business Phone System can pool together all calls made from their group of extensions by provisioning each of their extensions with a code specific for their group. A report on all calls that are part of that group via the code number can then be generated, allowing for accurate reporting on calls placed by the agent and his/her employees. The Enhanced CDR feature is also capable of automatically sending daily, weekly, or monthly reports via email.

Steve also likes how much the NEWT system works with the RE/MAX agents, many of whom are working remotely. “If a call comes to the front desk, we can forward the call to them, it’ll go to their extension at their desk, it’ll go to their cottage, it’ll go wherever they want to be”.

The NEWT Softphone allows agents to conduct business as usual regardless of their location. As long as they have an internet connection, agents can log in using their laptop or home desktop and have access to all the features offered through their NEWT PBX. Furthermore, when they make an outbound call using the Softphone, the recipient of the call will see the caller ID from the PBX, and not from wherever the agent is calling from.

When asked if he would recommend NEWT to other businesses and in particular real estate agencies, Steve was quick to reply, “I would highly recommend NEWT . . . it’s great, it’s efficient . . . it gives us and the agents what they need”.
